1976 olympic trials

The Olympic Snatch is an excellent example of a functional exercise. Depicted is Jim McCarty at the 1976 Olympic Trials. He was the youngest participant at 15; photo used by permission.

The Snatch is one of two exercises found in Olympic Lifting, where competitors must lift the barbell over their heads from the floor in one continuous movement, as opposed to the Clean & Jerk (the other Olympic Lift), which is performed in two movements.[1]
